Content Writer Notes From The Content Writing Front

Grinding Out The Good Stuff

The last few months have been somewhat hectic for me. But I am finally getting down to the business of being a full-time content writer and actually standing squarely on my own two feet. The secret it seems is diversity whilst not spreading my focus too thinly. At the same time, trying to gain velocity through a number of outlets.

For those who might be tempted to try to make a living in this business I have to warn you that it ain’t easy that‘s for sure! Content writing is a rewarding thing to do as long as you can type adequately quickly and accurately. It helps a lot to be aware of the sort of things that are in demand in the business.

Content Writer Tips

I would suggest to those who wish to become content writers that they take it up as a hobby and then figure it out from there. If you have your own blog you should be posting regularly and in depth. There are some fundamental points to keep in mind.

Doing Is Being

First, if you are writing on the web consistently over time then you are actually a writer, whether amateur or professional. This is because the boundary between writing for publication in print and in digital media has gone the way of the Berlin Wall.

Semantically Speaking

Second, the machines are watching you. Well, not you personally, but the presence that you have in the digital realm as a content writer. They are not malicious, these web-crawling automata, they simply seek to catalog everything and determine what value it is to the humans that use search to find the most useful information.

Say It Loud Say It Clear

To be an effective content writer you’ll have to learn how to conform to the practices that the machines find most appealing, while still producing something that is readable to an audience of people with high expectations and short attention spans.

There are a lot of loud voices competing to be heard. It’s not easy for a content writer to get the attention of the true audience when readers are swamped by so many others seeking attention. To be heard you must be loud, clear and very interesting to anyone who might be inclined to read more than the first sentence.

Remembering How Quiet The World Used To Be

It’s amusing to think what it would be like to be propelled back in time to the twentieth century. How annoying it would be to have to go more than a few minutes without some sort of digital interaction. I’m being literal here, no sarcasm at all. We live in a time when you have any kind of information literally at your fingertips.

I’d probably lose my mind if I only had broadcast TV, newspapers and books that require you go to them rather than the other way around, and public pay phones for any connection outside the house.

The final thing worth mentioning is the blurring of the lines between consumers and producers. That is the real source of the opportunity to become a content writer, at least in my experience.
